Easy Frosting for Dog Cakes

By Amanda Maddox

What’s a cake without icing? That is exactly what your four-legged friend wants to know. So, the next time you bake him a birthday cake or some yummy biscuits, consider adding pet-friendly icing to it. Choose from a variety of bases and flavorings, depending on what your particular pooch's preferences!

Step 1 - Select a Base for your Frosting. Here are your dog friendly options:
• 4 ounces of plain yogurt -or-
• 4 ounces of cottage cheese -or-
• 8 ounces of cream cheese

Add your selected base ingredient to a mixing bowl.

Step 2 - Pick a flavor from the following options:
• 2 Tablespoons of honey -or-
• 2 Tablespoons of maple syrup -or-
• 2 - 4 ounces of peanut butter -or-
• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Step 3 - Using a fork or whisk, blend your chosen ingredients together in the bowl. If your frosting is too thick, thin it out with canola oil, adding a teaspoon at a time until it reaches the correct consistency. If too thin, gradually add cornstarch or flour to thicken.

Step 4 - Frost your doggy cake or treats!
