• Alice — Protagonist of the Resident Evil franchise, portrayed by Milla Jovovich

• Amity — The fictional Massachusetts island featured in the first two Jaws movies


Annie (or Wilkes) — The deranged villainous who keeps her favorite author hostage in Misery

Armitage — A nod to the deceptively evil family in 2017's Get Out


Ash — Played by cult actor Bruce Campbell, Ash is the antihero of The Evil Dead franchise

• Barnabas — The rich aristocrat turned vampire from the Dark Shadows television series and 2012 film

Chucky — The villain in the long-running Child's Play slasher film series

Church — The cat who comes back to life in Stephen King's Pet Sementary

• Clarice — The FBI cadet who breaks the case in The Silence Of The Lambs


Clive — As in Clive Barker (you can't make this stuff), the creator of the Hellraiser franchise

• Copper — The doctor in The Thing

Craven — As in Wes Craven, the film director, writer, and producer behind the Nightmare On Elm Street and Scream movies

• Crystal — As in Crystal Lake, the fictional town in upstate New York home to the Friday The 13th franchise

• Curtis — As in Jamie Lee Curtis, the heroine of the Halloween franchise

• Cushing — As in Peter Cushing, a classic British actor who appeared in everything from The Mummy to Star Wars

Cujo — The titular rabid canine from the movie of the same name

• Darcy — The leader of the skinheads played by Patrick Stewart in Green Room

Dekker — As in Fred Dekker, the screenwriter best known for cult classic horror comedy films like Night of the Creeps and The Monster Squad

Denbrough — Older brother to Georgie, one of Pennywise's victims and the leader of "The Losers Club" in Stephen King's It

• Dixie — As in Dixie Boy, the name of the truck stop in Maximum Overdrive.


Dr. Mambo — The very bad boy from 2002's Cabin Fever

• Dourif — As in the actor Brad Dourif, who has appeared in everything from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest to The Lord Of The Rings but also voiced Chucky in the Child's Play series (my mind was literally blown when I recently pieced that one together.

• Eccles — As in Donald Eccles, one of the British actors to appear in the chilling classic, The Wicker Man

• Elvira — A nod to the cult-movie TV hostess

Ghostface — The masked killer(s) in the Scream movies

• Goblin — The name of the prog rock band who has soundtracked numerous horror films with a distinctive and atmospheric sound

• Gorgon — A nod to the 1964 film of the same name, starring legendary character actor and former British spy Christopher Lee

• HAL 9000 — Traitorous AI program in 2001: A Space Odyssey

Hammer — As in Hammer Studios, a British film production company that developed spooky and gothic horror films from the mid-1950s until the 1970s

Hendershot — A nod to the great character actor Pat Hingle's performance in Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive


Hitchcock — As in director Alfred, the master of suspense.

• Jaws — The titular sea beast in the Jaws movies.

Jigsaw — The creepy antagonist of the Saw series

Jonesy — The cat (!!!) from Alien, who along with her human Ripley are the only survivors to emerge from the U.S.S. Sulaco unscathed

Kane — The crew member who is the first victim of the xenomorph facehugger in 1979's Alien (and the first name of the actor who portrayed Jason Voorhees in 4 of the Friday The 13th films)

Karloff — As in Boris, the actor who played Frankenstein in a number of movies
