Golden Retriever Going On Big Nature Adventure With 'Best Friend' Is Pure Magic

Having a canine "baby" (of any age) and a human baby at the same time can be nice. When they grow up under the same roof, the two often form a close, special bond. They can nap, play, and go sightseeing together — the bonding time is endless. One toddler in particular is blessed to have two four-legged besties to go exploring with. Her mother, a photographer and filmmaker named Sarah Moore, even called her the "best friend" of one dog, a golden retriever named Kona, in a short Instagram video of the two walking through the woods together. If you've ever whether golden retrievers are a good option to bring into a home with kids, this video proves that the answer is a resounding yes.

The family has shared many other nature adventures, too, such as one particularly scenic one that was shared on TikTok in August 2025. The clip begins with the toddler walking away from the camera on a serene beach on a cloudy day. She takes a few steps before Kona begins to follow her. Their Siberian husky buddy, Rue, joins them moments later as they continue sauntering toward the water. "Always worth it," the caption reads. 

The trio live in Colorado, a state that offers plenty of scenic adventure opportunities in the great outdoors. Other videos show them walking through a field with a rainbow as the backdrop, warming up near a fire surrounded by evergreens, and hiking toward the mountains. Kona and Rue even enjoy a canoe ride with their adult humans from time to time. Talk about living the life!

With all the adventures that Rue and Kona have had with their humans, they probably don't remember a time when they didn't have each other, but they joined the household years apart. Kona arrived first, born sometime in late 2017. Sarah Moore introduced him on Instagram in January 2018 as the newest member of the Moore crew. Before Rue entered the picture, Kona logged plenty of trail miles and outdoor exploits with his humans, even pacing his ultramarathon-running mom on long training runs.

In August 2020, Kona gained a little sister when the Moores brought Rue home as a puppy. She immediately began tagging along on the group's year-round wanderings across Colorado. Judging by the Instagram evidence, Kona clearly relished having a canine sidekick for round-the-clock playtime. In addition to their countless dog-friendly outdoor activities beyond morning walks, the duo went to the drive-in together and hilariously dressed up as Wayne and Garth from "Wayne's World" for Halloween.

February 2024 marked another milestone when the Moores welcomed their first daughter, Saoirse. Her four-legged siblings seemed to accept her right into the pack, and yes, she also started joining them on their excursions as soon as she could (at just a few months old). If she could fully express it in words today, she'd likely say that Kona and Rue are more than just her siblings — they double as her guardians, playmates, and trail partners. Now, Saoirse will soon get to experience life as an older sibling herself, as Sarah is expecting a baby boy in January 2026. Congrats, Moore family!
