Tiny Maltese Mix Always Finds The Perfect Spot In The Sun To Take A Nap
Whether munching on a favorite pumpkin-flavored dog treat or splashing around in the pool, few things are as precious as watching our pets thrive in their element. No exception to this rule is a now viral TikTok video of one Max the Maltese basking in the sun — and Max is actually pretty skilled at finding the perfect sunny spot, too!

Max sure knows how to relax. In this adorable video, we see the apricot and white Maltese sunbathing in a spot lit up to frame him almost perfectly. Max's mom calls him the smartest sunshine puppy in the world, and after watching this video, we see her point! This little guy didn't just stumble on this sun-shiny space. No, apparently, Max has the most precious routine of going from room to room to find the absolutely perfect sunbathing spots throughout the day. Talk about pup-recious. No wonder nearly 10,000 fans liked his video.
Why does Max love the sun so much?
Max is certainly an avid sunbather, but what makes this Maltese so drawn to sunlight? Well, one viewer's nickname for him (Mr. Vitamin D) might help explain. One reason why dogs love lying in the sun so much may be due to the sunlight's ability to boost moods thanks to better vitamin D absorption.
Also important to note: Small dogs that weigh under 10 pounds, and short-haired dogs, like Max, are more prone to getting cold and may appreciate the heat a little sunbathing offers. Now, while some sunbathing is no problem (and even encouraged!), owners should make sure their puppers don't overexpose themselves. Too much sunlight can lead to sunburn, skin damage, and even skin cancer in dogs.
Don't worry. Pet parents can help protect their dogs from too much sun exposure by checking their skin for signs of sunburn, regulating their exposure throughout the day, and using dog-safe sunscreen. As long as the right precautions are in place, Max can keep his beloved sunbathing routine, and we can continue to love him for it!
