No One Loves The Rain More Than This Golden Retriever In Her Yellow Raincoat

For some dogs, rain outside is an instant hard pass — they'd rather skip the walk or just plain refuse to pee in the rain. But not for this delighted golden retriever, who wants nothing more than to don her yellow raincoat and soak it all up outside. We're honestly not sure we've ever seen a doggy enjoy standing in the rain more, and her owner seems to be loving the cuteness of it all just as much.

With a knowing grin at the start of the TikTok video, the golden retriever's owner announces, "It's raining outside. You know what that means." Then, the next shot is of the two of them outdoors in matching yellow raincoats, with the dog standing perfectly still with eyes happily closed and her face outstretched to the sky, as if she can't get enough of the drops showering down on her. "Rain, rain go away" is not a motto this golden retriever is familiar with!

The comments section is filled with zoomed-in screenshots of the pup's zen-like face, often captioned with song lyrics from Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" that include the words "feel the rain on your skin." Along with the closeup, one viewer wrote, "this screencap is now my religion." Enjoy your rain-filled moment, sweet pup!

Do dogs need raincoats?

The short answer to whether dogs "need" raincoats in wet weather is no. But that doesn't mean one wouldn't be beneficial or even appreciated. It all depends on the dog. Many dogs won't tolerate a raincoat or booties, but some will. Raincoats can sometimes be necessary for smaller and/or short-haired dogs, like chihuahuas and greyhounds, to help keep them warm and dry. Still others, like the golden retriever in the TikTok video, just might enjoy the comfort and protection a raincoat provides. Plus, they're cute to boot!

Signs your dog might benefit from wearing a raincoat include shivering in the rain or showing a reluctance to walk or even go out when it's wet. (Here are some tips for walking your dog in the rain.) On the flipside, a raincoat helps pet owners with cleanup when a wet dog comes in the house, as there will be less water for the dog to shake off its coat and less drying time.

If you do invest in a raincoat, make sure to get one that fits well. One that's too tight can restrict movement and deter your dog from wearing it, and one that's too loose can allow excess water in. The "two-finger slide test" will help ensure the best fit. While your dog is wearing the coat, try to slide two fingers under the straps. If it's difficult or impossible, the coat is too tight, and if more than three fingers can fit, it's too loose. Now, go enjoy that rain!
