Rescue Dog Goes Wild As Soon As He Sees Pizza And We Can Totally Relate
Pizza. Who doesn't love it? The crust, the sauce, the cheese, the toppings — it's like heaven was delivered in a box to your door. But when you're a dog owner, you know that the wafting aroma could send your normally docile dog into a feeding frenzy. That's exactly what this unsuspecting TikTok family experienced, when an abandoned dog they took in went from the mellowest canine on the planet to a non-stop master of begging for a piece of that sweet, sweet pie. Don't tell us that you can't totally relate!
@simonsits No because why are they actually arguing 😩 @Muddy Paws Rescue
The 2-minute clip starts off with the dog calmly napping, acting like a perfect little angel until his human companion starts eating pizza. Then, barking mayhem ensues, with the pint-size rescue dog yipping up a storm as his couch-dwelling caregiver tries to enjoy a slice. The look of shock on the man's face says it all, "Who is this and where did you come from?" he asks, guarding his pizza slice. Eventually, the dog sits on his hind legs begging, which does the trick, and he earns a bite of pizza.
Viewers ran to the comments to point out that "pizza bones" — aka the crusts — are well-known doggy delicacies. "I think someone used to get the pizza bones and he wants you to know about it," said one person about the rescue pup's antics, as another added, "He came from the streets of NY he knows pizza!!" Several posters pointed out that it was probably a treat he got from his family before being abandoned, with one noting, "He can't tell u where he's been or where he's from... but he will make sure u know he wants pizza 😂😭." And who could really resist giving him a nibble?
Should dogs eat pizza?
In general, dogs unfortunately should not eat pizza, as it can contain ingredients that are toxic to them, like onion and garlic. Plus, the high fat and sodium levels and dairy content can lead to doggy digestive issues like vomiting and diarrhea. However, the plain crust of the pizza — known as "pizza bones" in the TikTok comments of the barking rescue dog — might be okay as an occasional table scrap, as most dogs can tolerate bread. So, if you really can't resist giving your furry friend a taste of your slice, make sure it's just the crust. Or, better yet, make them their own version with dog-friendly pizza recipes!
That said, pizza crust should not be given as a regular snack, as that part of the pizza could still have bits of garlic, onion, or other ingredients that aren't good for dogs hiding in it or on it. If a doggy somehow gets its paws on a whole pie and eats it, watch for signs of illness or distress, and call your veterinarian immediately if any are exhibited. We know it's hard to watch your canine companion beg and bark for something that is so delicious, but it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your furry little best friend!
