Senior Corgi's Relationship With Golden Retriever Puppy Brother Is Adorably Awkward

Some friendships are bonded by an instant, undeniable connection, while others are a little forced and, quite honestly, awkward. Proving that point are these two doggy siblings on TikTok — one's a senior corgi and the other is a golden retriever puppy, and neither knows how to properly interact with the other. It's awkwardly adorable, and oh so relatable.

"My senior corgi's relationship with my puppy golden has been awkward," reads the caption on the video of the two pups clumsily interacting, before adding, "They have mismatched energy 99% time but they now co-exist very well 😆." At the start of the clip, the golden pup sneaks up behind the unsuspecting corgi, who gives the family's new addition the side eye before the two uncomfortably try not to look at each other. Later, we see the corgi getting annoyed with the puppy, who seemingly just wants to play. The two times the corgi decides to "play," she takes the puppy down with ease.

In the comments, people came to say hilarious things like, "Pupper: we same size but not same fun? 🤔" and drop screenshot images of the corgi baring her teeth and looking grumpy. "The golden is so oblivious 🤣🤣🤣😭," one person pointed out, but, honestly, that probably works in his favor here!

Extra care a senior dog needs

As dogs age, they require more patience and care, just like people. They also get set in their ways and enjoy their routine, just like people do. So, always keep that in mind when you're thinking of adding a new pet to the family as your current dog ages.

Of course, when a dog is considered to hit old age depends on the breed, as small breeds like toy poodles and Chihuahuas have a longer life expectancy than large-breed dogs like Great Danes and mastiffs, so while a 7-year-old Chihuahua is not considered old, a Great Dane of the same age would definitely be elderly.

Once your pup hits senior status, regular veterinary visits are needed, especially since a specialized diet or medication will most likely come into play as they age. They may also need pet stairs and ramps to aid them in doing things they once did with ease, like getting in and out of the car or onto the bed or couch. Comfortable bedding and non-slip rugs on low-traction floors would also be appreciated. Otherwise, maintain your doggy's routine as much as possible, with regular feedings and an appropriate amount of exercise and mental stimulation, because although they slow down, your pooch still needs and enjoys these things. Above all, show them patience, grace, and all the things you hope people will give you as you slip into your golden years.
