Tiny Yorkie Goes Into Full Attack Dog Mode When He Sees New Amazon Delivery

When you think of dog breeds most likely to save you during an emergency, the Yorkshire terrier may be one of the last to come to mind. But perhaps these little firecrackers should be higher on your list! Don't take our word, just watch Chance, "the crazy Yorkie," in action in this super viral TikTok with nearly 12 million views. It's Chance against an Amazon delivery, and believe it or not, he is a pretty convincing top dog.

Chance's TikTok profile calls him "a pit-bull trapped in a Yorkie's body." This is likely due to his demeanor that definitely fits the (surprisingly inaccurate) pittie stereotype. But one thing is for sure, this Yorkie is a real-life tough guy. The moment he's released to the great outdoors (see: his front porch), where there are two new Amazon packages, he goes into full attack dog mode.

Chance's anti-package protocol is no joke. He immediately gnaws on an Amazon package like his life depends on it, and viewers' responses to such antics ran the gamut. Some commenters joked that this sort of gusto is exactly why they love Yorkies. Others weren't a fan of Chance's chance encounter with the package, calling his behavior unacceptable. "At least he didn't overreact," joked one sarcastic viewer.

Why are tiny dogs so fierce?

Chance sure packs a punch for such a little pooch. Though he possibly overreacted towards an inanimate object, he most definitely has a watchdog spirit. Is it just a Chance trait, or do small dogs that weigh under 10 pounds really make the toughest watchdogs?

Funny enough, a 2021 University of Helsinki study did, indeed, find small dogs to be more aggressive than their larger counterparts. This can be at least partially due to a learned behavior called small dog syndrome that causes little ones to bark, bite, and growl in self-defense to any and everything they find triggering (see: Chance and the Amazon package). Yet perhaps the main difference between a simply aggressive tiny dog and a pint-sized watchdog is training and socialization.

Small dog owners often avoid training because they assume little guys don't need it, which couldn't be further from the truth. Early positive reinforcement training for tenacious (and sometimes aggressive) tiny dogs can teach them what is and isn't acceptable. Plus, Yorkies like Chance, in particular, may need even more focus than other canines for such training to stick. Over time, that fierce instinct can be used for good — like warning you when a stranger's at the door!
