Rescue Dog Giving The Cold Shoulder Takes Holding A Grudge To The Next Level

We all know people can hold grudges for a long time. But if you've ever wondered if dogs hold grudges the same way, too, look no further than this video, where an annoyed rescue dog hilariously turns her back on a visitor she thinks has done her wrong. It's a TikTok video for the ages!

Titled "One little accident and a broken trust 😭," the video explains that the original poster's friend once accidentally knocked a glass off the table, scaring the dog when it shattered. Now, every time the friend comes over and sits at the table, the dog turns her back and refuses to look at the perpetrator.

"She CANT believe u invited her back," noted one commenter, as someone else jumped in pretending to be the pup saying, "'The enemy has returned.'" Meanwhile, one jokester just plainly called the dog "PTSD final boss." A stark reminder to never forget they never forget!

How long can dogs remember?

There's been much research done on dogs' memory, which has proven that they have both short-term and long-term memory capabilities. Their short-term memory only lasts about two minutes, which is why scolding them after you find a mess they made, even five minutes later, won't be understood. Meanwhile, their long-term memory — which includes scents, sounds, and people — can last years.

Properly training your dog can help them retain long-term memory associations that allow them to navigate through life. While their short-term memory doesn't really permit them to remember a specific event, their long-term memory stores information that helps them survive and understand the world around them, especially associations with actions, scents, and individuals. So, a dog will remember that every time you pick up their leash, they're going for a walk, but they don't really remember what happened in prior walks.
