Just the name "chocolate lab" can have you dreaming of all sorts of sweet treats made with the popular ingredient created from cacao beans. Apparently, the chocolate-colored Labrador retriever's owner was making sourdough bread and casually wiped leftover flour off the table without realizing the curious pup was standing right there. What we get to see is the aftermath of the all-brown dog looking unfazed while wearing a dusting of flour!

Unable to contain their thoughts, viewers flooded the comments section with ideas about which dessert the doggy most looked like, from powdered brownies to Domino's lava cakes. With one person taking things to the next level by referring to him as "chocolate laba cake," and another kindly adding, "When you think pups can't get any sweeter 😂❤🐕." Ah, chef's kiss!

Why dogs shouldn't eat chocolate

Most dogs would happily gobble up a chocolate candy bar if given the chance, but unfortunately, chocolate is one treat that dogs can't eat, as it is dangerous for them. While humans can enjoy chocolate without a second thought, dogs process certain ingredients differently, including a substance called theobromine that's naturally found in the popular confection. Canines can't break theobromine down as quickly as people can, allowing it to build up in their system and become toxic. On top of that, chocolate also contains caffeine, which is also on the list of foods your dog cannot eat

The darker and more concentrated the chocolate, the more dangerous it can be. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate contain higher levels of theobromine than milk chocolate, making them especially risky. Even small amounts can cause symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, and, in severe cases, seizures.

Of course, dogs don't always know what's bad for them, so a forgotten candy bar or dropped chocolate chip cookie is simply a delicious snack to them, even though it can make them sick. That's why pet owners should keep chocolate safely out of reach and never give it as a treat. If a dog does eat some, it's best to contact a veterinarian as soon as possible, especially if showing signs of serious symptoms you can't ignore. If you find yourself feeling sorry that your furry companion is missing out on such a delicious goodie, simply reframe it as having more for yourself!
