Mini Dachshund Copies Everything Her German Shepherd BFF Does And We're In Love
There's just something about seeing a cute little mini dachshund stand next to a big, rugged German shepherd that gives us all a giggle. When they form an unexpected friendship, it's even better. Just take these two dog siblings, one's an adorable mini doxie, and the other a sweet German shepherd, and their pet parent posted the cutest video on TikTok of the mini wanting to mimic big brother BFF in every way possible, especially when it comes to drinking water.

Simply captioned "besties," the clip shows the mini long-haired silver dapple dachshund named Willa being so excited to drink out of the big water bowl alongside her German shepherd brother. "Only want water if big guy is drinking it," the clip points out, as the little doggy excitedly laps up water every time the big dog leans in. In other videos on Willa the Ween's account, the unlikely duo is seen cuddling up together to sleep and gently playing together, each time with the littlest pup looking truly enamored.
"I love a big dog small dog duo 😭," one person came to the comments to say after watching the water-bowl video, while another pointed out "that size difference is unreal." To us, it's clear that little Willa isn't just drinking water; she's lapping up every chance to be just like her big brother, and he doesn't seem to mind having a tiny, fanatical shadow following him around.
How dogs bond with each other
Dogs become best friends in a lot of the same ways people do: spending time together, building mutual trust, and sharing positive experiences. Of course, one difference is that a big way dogs bond is through scent.
By sniffing and sharing space, pups become familiar with each other's unique smell, which helps create a sense of comfort and trust. So, before they begin running around the yard together, many canine companions bond by simply hanging out side by side while going on leashed walks or relaxing in the same room. These quiet moments help them understand they are both part of the same pack. Beyond that, supervised play is another big part of the doggy friendship process, with chasing, rough-housing, and interactive toys becoming ways they learn to communicate, set boundaries, and have fun.
As their bond grows, they'll often start getting physically closer, such as licking each other's faces or curling up together for naps. Once they've decided they're forever friends or a bonded pair, they'll often stay close, search for each other when separated, and always genuinely seem to enjoy each other's company. It's dynamic doggy duos for the win, especially when it comes to big dogs with their small best friends!
