Cavapoo Comes Home With New Haircut And Her Himalayan Kitten Sister Isn't A Fan

There's something about leaving the salon with a fresh new 'do that makes you feel like a whole new person with an added confidence boost. That same pep-in-your-step feeling is often seen in dogs, too, when they leave the groomer — until, of course, they get home and other animals don't recognize them. Case in point, this freshly groomed cavapoo comes home to a less-than-thrilled Himalayan cat sister, who doesn't know what to make of the well-coiffed intruder!

"POV your dog got groomed and your kitten doesn't recognize her," reads the caption of the TikTok video posted by Angela Santiago, as a fluffy cat is seen arching its back and hissing as the dog enters the house. While the cat stares in freaked-out disbelief, the dog gets a little shy and confused as the owner giggles at the interaction unfolding. Once the owner starts patting the dog, the cat seems to relax as if thinking, "OK, everything's cool here!"

Of course, the top comment in the comments section with over 200,000 likes reads: "Angela, you said I looked good," alongside a pic of the poor cavapoo seeming sheepish, as another added that the dog clearly looked "embarrassed." Safe to say, the makeover took everyone by surprise!

If your cat hisses or growls suddenly at the family dog after a trip to the groomer, it's not personal; the kitty just doesn't realize it's looking at the same pup! Cats and dogs rely more on scent than appearance, and a bath with shampoo and a blow-dry can completely erase a dog's familiar smell, making it seem like a complete stranger has wandered into the house.

The haircut probably doesn't help, either. A fluffy, overgrown dog that's suddenly neatly trimmed has a different physical outline, and that unexpected change can throw other pets for a loop. So, many cats will respond by staring, hissing, or keeping their distance until they figure out the "newcomer" isn't actually new.

The good news is that the confusion usually doesn't last long. Once the groomed dog starts smelling more like itself again and settles back into its normal routine, most furry housemates quickly realize it's the same friend they knew before the makeover — just with a much fresher look!
