Basset hounds typically weigh between 40 and 65 pounds, even though they stand less than 15 inches tall, making them surprisingly hefty for their stature. Their smooth coats are relatively easy to maintain, but their floppy ears and layers of loose skin need regular cleaning to help prevent odors and infections. Don't let those little legs and overall laziness fool you, because when these dogs catch an interesting scent, they'll eagerly follow it, so a well-fitted body harness leash or secure fence is always needed!
