Blind Mini Dachshund Saved From Heartbreaking Fate Is Now Living The Dream Life

Sometimes, a pet with special needs is lucky enough to find the exact right owner, and that's certainly the case with a darling doggo named Wren. In a heartwarming video posted on TikTok, Wren is shown gently chewing on a stuffed toy. She has sweet blue bows tied on her ears and seems, to all appearances, like a happy, healthy, well-adjusted pooch. Overlaid on the video is the text: "Meet Wren, she is a blind and partially deaf mini dachshund. She is the result of a double dapple breeding. The breeder wanted to euthanize her, that's when we stepped in and her story began."

Viewers heaped praise upon both the small sausage dog and her rescuers. "I'd go to battle for this precious baby!! 🥰" declared one, and another wrote, "Thank you for saving this sweet, loving girl. She's going to live a good life ❤️." Other videos shared by the TikTok account show Wren having the types of enjoyable experiences that many dogs can only dream of: devouring a pup cup, frolicking with other little dogs, enthusiastically digging in the dirt, and zooming around the yard at breakneck speed.

Why responsible breeders avoid letting two dapples mate

One viewer of the TikTok video praised Wren but also had harsh words for a certain type of unethical dog breeder: "She's precious! It's horrible how breeders breed dapples together." Wren's owner responded that three of the five puppies in the litter had special needs. When two dachshunds with merle coats mate, the resulting coat pattern is known as double merle or double dapple. Although this makes for striking-looking fur, it comes with a high risk of health issues such as blindness or poor eyesight, total or partial deafness, and kidney problems. Some of these double-dapple dogs are born with tiny eyes or no eyes at all, and others have no ears.

Responsible breeders never allow two dapples to mate. But when it does sometimes happen, it's reassuring to know that kind people such as Wren's owners are willing to step up and care for these dogs with special needs. One netizen commented, "Such a beautiful baby!! Thank you for saving her. She'll adapt just like a human blind and partially deaf child adapts. Her story has indeed just begun!! 🥰🥰🥰"
