Brooke Shields Expands Her Family & Adopts Cuddly New Puppy: 'We Are Obsessed With Her!'

One of those abandoned dogs lucked out recently when actress Brooke Shields and her family decided to bring home the little white pooch. Shields shared photos and videos of the cute doggo in a post on X that reads, "World, meet Shippy 🐶🥹 She is perfect and we are obsessed with her!!" Shippy has joined a busy household that is already home to two other adopted pups, Tuzi and Cluny.

Netizens were quick to heap praise upon both Shields and her new canine companion. "That is wonderful ~ congratulations on your kindness. Shippy will have a wonderful forever home filled with love & caring," wrote one, while another gushed, "Oh my heart! She's adorable!!! 😍😍😍 She looks like Snowy from Tintin." Several people pondered what type of dog Shippy is, with one suggesting, "Looks like a Westie! Small dogs with big personality!"

Brooke Shields received kudos galore for adopting Shippy instead of buying a dog from a breeder. "Shelter dogs are THE BEST and so are you!" commented one person, and another wrote, "Thank you for changing an animal's life, Brooke." When it's time to adopt a dog, selecting an animal from a shelter saves that specific animal's life and also frees up a spot in the shelter for another needy animal. 

In 2025, about 5.8 million animals (2.8 million dogs and 3 million cats) were taken in by animal shelters and animal rescue organizations across the United States. About 4.2 million of those animals were fortunate enough to wind up in their new forever homes, while another 638,000 pets were reunited with their original owners (per Shelter Animals Count). That still leaves a huge number of dogs and cats seeking homes, making adoption the loving choice.

The rewards of adopting a shelter animal can be huge.
