Golden Retriever Hilariously Outgrows His Favorite Nap-Time Spot But Still Makes It Work
We all remember what it was like to grow up and no longer be able to use our baby blanket to nap or run under the kitchen table without whacking our head. Many of us have also seen our pets outgrow things too, if we first got them as puppies or kittens. Luckily, this dog on Threads seems totally clueless as to why he no longer cozily fits into his favorite nap-time spot — but he's hilariously determined to still make the space work!
The side-by-side photos, posted on Threads, show Rusty as a puppy, easily twisted up on the relatively petite chair taking a lights-out nap. On the right, Rusty is now full-grown and curled up as tight as possible but still spilling out over the edges. But, hey, he fits!
Meanwhile, the We Rate Dogs Threads caption reads: "This is Rusty. He doesn't fit on his favorite napping chair as well as he used to. Doesn't really know why. Must have shrunk in the wash or something. 13/10." In the comments, one person wrote, "Pretzel dog," as another stated, "He'd rather believe the chair betrayed him than accept he's a large dog now. Respect the commitment." We certainly do!
Why do pets like to sleep in the same spot?
Many pet owners often wonder: Why does my pet keep returning to the exact same sleeping spot? Well, it's not just because they've decided one corner of the couch is theirs. It's because familiar places can make animals feel safe and relaxed. Every time they snooze somewhere, their scent stays behind, creating a friendly reminder that this is their territory.
Of course, comfort is another factor. Your pet may have picked a particular place because it's soft or perfectly positioned for keeping an eye on the entire household or for when the sunlight beams in for them to bask in. Once they find a spot that checks all the boxes, why mess with perfection?
There's also the simple fact that pets love routine. Returning to the same sleeping place can become a soothing part of their daily schedule, and if that spot happens to be near you, even better! Sleeping close to their favorite person can provide warmth, companionship, and a sense of security. So that favorite blanket, chair, or patch of floor isn't random; it's your pet's carefully chosen comfort zone. Can't get enough of cute pets curling up?
