From 9 To 15 Weeks: German Shepherd Puppy's Transformation Will Melt Your Heart
When it comes to puppies, it seems like you blink and miss when they grow up; it happens so fast. Which is why this Facebook reel of a man and his German shepherd puppy just might melt your heart, as you get to see the pup's real-time stages of maturity across just six weeks. You will be amazed!
"They grow up so fast," reads the caption, as the owner of the GSD named Ripken is seen picking the puppy up week after week, starting at 9 weeks old. As the weeks go on, the pup gets noticeably bigger as his human companion struggles just a little bit more in each shot to heave him up. The video ends at 15 weeks, when the content creator is noticeably straining.
In the comments, many GSD owners commiserated, sharing pics of their own dogs, with one noting: "They do grow fast. I swear when mine was 7 weeks old, every day I came home from work, he got bigger!!" If only we could freeze time, right?
How big is the average German shepherd?
German shepherds are one of the strongest dog breeds — and their size is part of what makes them such an impressive breed. Adult males typically stand 24 to 26 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 65 and 90 pounds, while females are generally a little smaller, measuring 22 to 24 inches tall and weighing around 50 to 70 pounds. That's a whole lot of dog to squeeze onto the couch!
Of course, not every German shepherd will tip the top of the scale, as genetics, diet, and exercise can all influence a dog's final size. Working German shepherds (like these GSD puppies training to be K-9s) are often leaner and more athletic than an everyday household pet. But either way, these dogs have plenty of muscle packed into their frames.
Despite their impressive physique, German shepherds take their time growing up. While most reach their full height by 18 months old, they can continue developing muscle and filling out until they're around 3. So, even when your GSD looks fully mature, they may still have some growing left to do!
