Dachshund Puppy Experiencing The Hiccups Is The Definition Of Precious

Some dogs don't need to do much of anything in order to get the people of the internet to fall in love with them. Need proof? Look no further than a charming little dachshund named Nga Dum, who's featured in an Instagram Reel captioned, "My poor little girl had the hiccups and looked so confused every single time. 🥹🤎Mom just sat there watching her, waiting patiently for them to go away. It took a little while... but she was finally hiccup-free. 🥰🐾"

In the reel, also posted to Facebook, the darling doxie looks adorably baffled every time another hiccup shudders through her tiny body, and she stares at the camera with her huge, soulful eyes. "Poor baby," commented one Facebook viewer, and another wrote, "So precious." A third admitted, "It's so cute though."

There's no denying that watching the petite pup experience the hiccups is entertaining. Sausage dogs are so darned cute that seeing a dachshund waving with his little legs can release a dopamine hit, as can watching a mini dachshund puppy learning how to kiss. Other reels show Nga Dum wearing various costumes, chewing on toys, sleeping soundly, riding in the car, and playing with her owner.

Pet owners are sometimes surprised to learn that dogs and cats can get the hiccups, just like humans do. The causes of these involuntary diaphragm spasms can be similar, too: eating or drinking too quickly, swallowing too much air, feeling stress or excitement, or experiencing a sudden change in temperature. Hiccups in dogs can be triggered by rough play, and in cats can be caused by hairballs.

Puppies are particularly prone to hiccups, especially while sleeping, as are brachycephalic dogs (flat-faced breeds such as boxers, bulldogs, pugs, and Brussels griffons). In the vast majority of instances, hiccups resolve quickly on their own. However, if the hiccups don't end within a day, or if they seem to be developing into a chronic condition, then a visit to a veterinarian is a good idea.
