Horse Knew His Owner Was Pregnant Before She Did - Watch Her Introduce Him To The Baby

It's long been thought that certain animals have an innate ability to sense human pregnancy and health issues. Dogs are one astute pet that researchers suspect can smell unexpected things that humans can't. However, this Instagram post will also make you realize horses are sentient beings who share a deep connection with their owners. A horse named Oakley sensed his owner was pregnant before she even knew, according to his human Christiana Lundy, who shared a sweet video of the steed and baby meeting for the very first time.

"I have been waiting months for this introduction," read the caption, which then went on to recall the horse's unusual interaction with her belly just weeks before she found out she was pregnant. "He is such a special horse. My heart is so full. 🤍" The video then showed the first meeting between Oakley and baby Juliette, where the equine gently sniffed the baby's head and calmly stood close to mama and child.

"Awwww such a special moment for them to meet each other," said one person after watching the video, with another adding, "That is the sweetest ever. He's so gentle." It's just a little reminder that all four-legged family members, both small and tall, are always there to make your heart sing.

Can animals really sense pregnancy in humans?

While there hasn't been a lot of direct research into the phenomenon of pregnant pet owners claiming their four-legged family members knew they were pregnant before they did, there has been some scientific documentation, such as a 2025 study in Anthrozoös, of such remarkable events. Most insight revolves around household pets like dogs and cats, who can indeed sense hormonal, scent, and body temperature shifts in people, which are all associated with pregnancy.

While a pet may indeed sense these types of changes, they probably do not fully comprehend what pregnancy or a developing fetus is. Still, their interactions with a pregnant human could very well shift to include increased clinginess, affection, and/or protectiveness. Some pets, though, may be completely oblivious, while others could show signs of stress or anxiety if normal routines get disrupted. Most pets, though, will stay that same furry friend you've always known and loved throughout the process — even horses!
