Black Cat Is Visibly Unimpressed After 'Hooman' Baby Dresses Up As Her For Halloween
Kids love cats. So, it's only natural for them to want to dress up like their beloved family pet for Halloween, just like this toddler did. But when the little kid eagerly shows off the costume, her black cat named Coco definitely had thoughts. Check out the cat's reaction!
The video, shared by ABC's Localish, shows the baby teetering around in an adorable homage to Coco, an all-black cat onesie complete with tail and ears. But when the real-life Coco comes to check out the scene, it's a quick turnaround, as the cat makes a speedy exit after looking visibly unimpressed. Guess Coco isn't the kind of black cat who thinks every day is Halloween! Perhaps next year Coco will get more into the spirit of the season, knowing that there are plenty of other black cats out there gearing up for Halloween — and even cats dressing up like Count Dracula.
Why a Halloween costume might scare a cat
A Halloween costume that seems fun to humans might look downright scary to a cat. Our feline friends rely on familiar routines and scents to understand their surroundings, so when their human suddenly appears wearing a mask or full-body costume, they might not recognize the person underneath. Instead, they see a strange creature invading their space, and their first instinct may be to run for cover.
Costumes can also change how people move and sound. Flowing capes, oversized mittens, and exaggerated footsteps can make even a familiar family member seem unpredictable and easily put them on edge. Unusual smells from makeup or costume materials could also add to their confusion and fear. A frightened cat may crouch, flatten its ears, puff up its tail, hiss, or run away. So, to keep Halloween fun for everyone, let your cat observe from a safe distance and be allowed to retreat to a quiet hiding spot, if necessary. After all, nobody wants their beloved pet thinking a real monster has arrived!
