Pets have their own unique habits. As pet parents, we've surely all wished we knew what our pets were secretly doing when left alone. Well, one cat owner got a solid glimpse into his pet's day by placing a GoPro-like collar on one of his Maine coon kitties to capture all the adventures — and what an adventure this particular cat went on, complete with a smug look!

With the caption, "Iris loves to explore the neighborhood, but maybe she is a bit too adventurous for her own good!" the YouTube video follows the cat named Iris as she climbs up onto the top of a house and jumps from one roof to another, a feat helped by the fact that Maine coons hold the world record for the longest domestic cat. She is quickly spotted by her surprised human, who goes outside to check on her. The nimble kitty spends several minutes looking for a way down before dad decides it's time to bust out a ladder and offer a helping hand.

"Iris the adventurer," one person marveled in the comments, as another added, "Even a supercat like Iris needs a roof rescue from time to time." Meanwhile, another viewer noted, "It's so amazing that a cat has no problem running up a tree but so many have no idea how to get down. I get upset when someone says 'oh they'll come down' eventually. Not all will come down." We're just glad this story had a happy ending!

How to safely get a cat off a roof

Cats have a knack for getting themselves into sticky situations, especially when left to their own devices. Cats who live or go outside often find themselves in dangerous predicaments, including getting stuck in trees and on top of roofs. While they are easily able to get up, it's not so easy for them to get down.

If you encounter a cat on a roof, the best thing to do is help coax it down on its own using the lure of food or treats. However, if that doesn't work after a while, it may be necessary to pull out a ladder and physically help the cat, if possible, or use it to help create a stable "bridge" for the cat to walk down on its own. As a last resort, calling a professional may be necessary.

While a kitty roof-rescue may seem like a job for the local fire department, they can't always help. So it's best to keep in mind area animal rescue groups and private for-hire services that utilize bucket trucks. Of course, the last thing you want to do is scare the cat off where help cannot reach it or have it leap out of fear from a height that could lead to severe injury, so being slow, cautious, and caring is always the name of the game. If you never want to have to lure your pet cat out of a dangerous outdoor situation, here are some safe ways to let your indoor cat enjoy the outdoors.
