Cats are natural-born cuddlers. Whether they do it to their littermates, their human companions, or just about anyone and everyone, they almost always seem to love to snuggle up. But why?

Simply put, cats do it to be warm, feel safe, and show affection. We've all seen a cat seek out a beam of sunlight to sleep in, and cuddling up is no different in their eyes when it comes to staying cozy. There's also the safety aspect, with their wild instincts kicking in, because out in nature they are left vulnerable while sleeping, so huddling up offers protection. This behavior is also a sign of emotional bonding, whether it be between siblings, humans, or other companion animals they form unexpected friendships with. 

Of course, not all cats are cuddlers, especially when it comes to humans and other animals that aren't part of their immediate social or family circle. But even a non-cuddly cat can still show affection toward you through blinking eyes, purring, and sitting nearby.
