American Bulldog Makes An Unexpected New Best Friend And Our Hearts Can't Take It

Classic films like "The Fox and the Hound" and the more recent "Unlikely Animal Friends" documentary prove that the world's fascination with interspecies friendships never ends. After all, who wouldn't want to witness the unusual bond between a Chihuahua and a chicken or a cockatoo and a cat? The Dodo shared another unlikely connection on YouTube in October 2025 involving an American bulldog named Zeus and a bearded dragon named Roscoe.

Roscoe isn't Zeus's first non-canine companion; he once had a feline friend named Kitty, who sadly crossed the rainbow bridge in 2021 at the age of 20, leaving him feeling lonely. "He was really depressed," his human, Jennifer, said, but the void left behind created space for a new companion, even a hairless, cold-blooded one. The unusual appearance and major size difference didn't stop Zeus from eventually befriending the reptile as if he were a fluffy, barbed-tongued cat. After all, bearded dragons are among the most social reptiles.

Viewers have enjoyed seeing the two pets getting along. "Wow! This is incredible to see these two completely different creatures form a friendship," one viewer commented in the YouTube clip. "It's so sweet." They added that some humans can learn a thing or two from their bond. Another viewer called Roscoe Zeus's "emotional support dragon."

Roscoe and Zeus: From how it started to how it's going

Roscoe met Zeus sometime in 2019, but it was Zeus who joined the family last, not the other way around. In fact, Jennifer brought him home when he was just a puppy and introduced him to his feline and reptilian siblings. For about two years, the trio lived together, unaware of what the future would hold for them.

Despite sharing a roof for all that time, the dog and reptile didn't interact much at first, since Zeus was usually too busy with Kitty — his first BFF — but that all changed when she passed. "I put them in the same area together, and then all of a sudden, Zeus was just like, 'Let's play!'" Jennifer shared with The Dodo.

Instagram posts from 2025 show the pair still hanging out, napping together, and enjoying some vitamin D outdoors together. Roscoe even climbs into Zeus's bed to be closer to him and is comfortable "riding" on his back. Jennifer has even created an AI-generated series on TikTok called "The Zeusy & Roscoe Show," where the two animals trade "Yo mama" jokes back and forth. Roscoe may not be able to completely fill the Kitty-shaped hole in Zeus's heart, but he definitely seems to be lifting his spirits.
