TikTok Tries To Name This Shih Tzu Puppy But His Owner's Pick Is The Cutest Of All

Every pet's story starts somewhere, and this little shih tzu certainly has a memorable tale, as his TikTok content creator owner says she found him abandoned on the side of the road when he was just a one-pound puppy. After a few posts about his story and well-being, she uploaded this "perkier" video of the rescued rascal sitting in a box, captioned: "Still no name but he likes to chew and bite." Of course, viewers immediately ran to the comments section trying to name the pooch!

Set to carnivalesque music, the pint-size pup is seen chewing on the side of the cardboard box he also calls a bed, all while looking super cute. With brown, fluffy hair and a Wookiee-like face, the comments section lit up with suggestions to name him Chewy or Chewbacca, a la the "Star Wars" character the doggy resembles, and because the tiny shih tzu was biting on a box, with a couple of nods to Gizmo from "Gremlins" thrown in for good measure. Other suggestions include Lucky, Chance, and Roadie, all relating to the way he was found. In the end, though, his human decided to name him...Pretzel!

What to do if you find an abandoned dog or cat

If you believe you have found an abandoned pet and want to help, the first thing to do is safely contain the animal, then see if you can locate its owner in case it is a missing pet that a responsible caretaker is actively searching for. Make sure the dog or cat is secure in a carrier, self-contained room, or another safe location for both you and the animal, providing it with some food and water and a litter box, if necessary. If you're hoping to locate the owner, check for tags, "lost pet" signs or social media posts, or head to a vet or local animal shelter for microchip scanning.

If a responsible owner is nowhere to be found, consider whether you will keep the animal, foster it, or rehome it. If you cannot keep it, contact a local animal shelter or rescue group for help with finding a suitable new home or location. Of course, if the animal is injured or in any kind of distress upon first encountering it, immediately call animal control, a 24-hour rescue organization, or take it to a nearby vet. Remember: A little kindness and caring go a long way when it comes to helping out an animal in need.
