Golden Retriever's Howls Come With 'Fancy Feet' As She Adds Silly Flair To Her Woos

Everybody say "woo!" Because that's what this silly golden retriever on Instagram sounds like she's doing every time she expresses herself with a cute little howl. It's not just the unusual way she howls that will leave you laughing; it's also the way she adds a little bit of fancy flair when it comes to the pep in her step!

The golden retriever pup named Lucie is known on the social media platform for her silly "woos," but this time the content creator notes that "This woo count contains dangerous levels of...fancy feet" before showing the goldie howling throughout the week while doing some fancy footwork as an added bonus. She jumps, leaps, walks backwards, and adorably stomps her feet while talking to the camera. "She puts a smile on my face, so funny ❤️," said one commenter on the post, as another noted that "the footwork is impeccable!" All aboard the woo-woo train, we say!

Why do dog howls sound different?

All dogs howl at some point, but not all dog howls sound the same. In fact, even from the same dog, the sound changes depending on what your pup is trying to say, as tone, length, and pitch all help your pooch communicate.

Sometimes, a long dramatic howl is just a way of checking in or calling out, almost like asking, "Anybody out there?" Meanwhile, fast, high-pitched howls can point to separation anxiety, while sudden, intense howls along with signs of pain may mean your dog is hurt or not feeling well. Noises like sirens, music, or other shrill sounds can trigger a howl as if your dog is singing along. Dog owners may also notice that breeds with close ties to wolf ancestry — like huskies and malamutes — can howl more often and with greater vocal variety than some of the more contemporary designer mixed breeds.

When dogs howl together, they purposely create different tones so every vocalization stands out, and their emotions shape the performance too — a happy reunion usually gets a lighter, more playful howl than a repetitive, lonely call of a dog searching for its pack. So, whether it's excitement, loneliness, or a passing siren, your dog's howl always has a story to tell. Want to see more howling dogs? Check out this corgi with a hilarious alarm howl.
