You never know what adventures and souvenirs might be waiting for you when you travel the world. For Hannah Shaw, who calls herself the Kitten Lady, a hike around Manchu Picchu would result in discovering a beautiful but malnourished little kitty on the streets.
You'd Never Know That This Happy Kitten Was Rescued From A Dangerous Situation
Shaw, who luckily for this sweet furball specializes in rescuing kittens, happened to see this blue-eyed baby being passed around by some local children. She could hear it crying loudly and knew she had to do something.
She took the kitten into her own hands. After all, as an educator and neonatal kitten care specialist, she was the perfect candidate to save this cat. She happen to have some cat food on hand (like the good cat rescuer she is), and she began protecting and feeding it. Despite the fact that she and her boyfriend had a train to catch, they came up with a plan on the spot.
They'd take the cat to Cusco with them and then onto Lima.
It would be more complicated to figure out how to get the cat into the United States, but Shaw knew from the pleading big eyes of her tiny companion that she had no choice.
They documented the whole adventure in a touching video.
Shaw named the beauty Munay Michi, which is Quechua for "pretty cat." After one good look at this gorgeous Peruvian kitty, you know it's a perfect choice.
After lots of love, care, and a surprisingly easy transition into the United States, Munay began really thriving.
Shaw made sure Munay got the medical attention she needed, and slowly nursed her back to health.
Eventually, she introduced her to her other rescued cats. Before she knew it, Munay had a completely different life from her scary situation on the streets.
Shaw is careful to point out that not everyone should go around snagging small animals while on vacation. She says it's important to assess the situation and figure out the best course of action. In this case, she felt like Munay was in pretty dire straights if they just left her. So they decided to completely change her life.
Part of the proceeds from Munay's stylish shirt will go to workers at a cat shelter in the kitty's native Peru.
Munay awaits adoption to her loving forever home along with some of her feline friends at Shaw's rescue.
